{"id":230,"date":"2011-06-19T23:27:23","date_gmt":"2011-06-20T06:27:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.rubschlager.com\/matt\/?p=230"},"modified":"2011-06-19T23:27:23","modified_gmt":"2011-06-20T06:27:23","slug":"day-9-coos-bay-to-astoria","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rubschlager.com\/matt\/day-9-coos-bay-to-astoria\/","title":{"rendered":"Day 9 &#8211; Coos Bay to Astoria"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.rubschlager.com\/matt\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2011\/06\/Day-9-Map1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-233\" title=\"Day 9 Map\" src=\"http:\/\/www.rubschlager.com\/matt\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2011\/06\/Day-9-Map1-89x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"89\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a>The bed at the hotel last night definitely left something to be desired.\u00a0 It was nearly broken on the side that I was sleeping on so there wasn&#8217;t much sleep to be had.\u00a0 That was unfortunate as we were planning on heading out early in the morning and had the most miles of any day yet ahead of us.\u00a0 Needless to say we didn&#8217;t hit the road as early as we would have liked.\u00a0 As a result we got stuck behind every RV in existence, that is road worthy, in Oregon today.\u00a0 Would not have be much of a big deal, but there are some monsters out there that people pull up and around the windy turns along the coast.\u00a0 Beyond the normal Oregon &#8220;five under&#8221; that most people seem to drive these things go even slower.\u00a0 At one point I was going fifteen miles per hour below the posted speed &#8212; on a smooth straight away none the less.\u00a0 The flip side of this coin is that you have the feisty out of state people who race you in their RVs.\u00a0 That&#8217;s right.\u00a0 Going to pause here and let that one sink in.\u00a0 An RV raced a pair of motorcycles (us) today.\u00a0 Pausing&#8230;\u00a0 Obviously it didn&#8217;t win, but really?\u00a0 Why even posture like that.\u00a0 Admittedly the RV had Florida plates so you&#8217;ll need to take that into consideration.**<\/p>\n<p>The coast was essentially the coast that we&#8217;ve been on before.\u00a0 Although I do need to amend my statement yesterday.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t believe that we&#8217;d ever ridden the motorcycle from Seaside to Astoria so we did take care of that piece of US Route 101.<\/p>\n<p>We stopped in Lincoln City for a quick phone call to our Dads to wish them a happy Father&#8217;s Day.\u00a0 Angie picked up a sea shell as a souvenir at the place we ate at, which was a mixture of a ice cream parlor, gift shop, sandwich shop, and coffee shop.\u00a0 The place seemed a bit indecisive to me, but looked to be working for them.<\/p>\n<p>We rolled into Astoria and registered at the hotel.\u00a0 They bumped us up to the next available suite (with in room jacuzzi) for no extra cost.\u00a0 I guess the desk clerk saw our weariness and felt sorry for us.\u00a0 Anyway the room is amazing.
