Proud Of My Dad

I’ve always been proud of my Dad – even during that period in high school when you’re not supposed to be.  It’s only as I’ve gotten older, moved out, gotten married, bought a house, and work full-time that I’ve begun to understand some of the sacrifices he made as I was growing up.  I don’t have children of my own yet, but I can only think that the sacrifices become more pronounced as kids are added to the mix.

Recently though my Dad earned his Associates degree from his local community college, Harper.  For a while it was looking as if he wouldn’t be able to complete it after a few set backs just as he was approaching the end.  It turned out unbeknown to him, he did in fact have enough credits to meet the degree requirements.  The following link was an article that was run in the Chicago Tribune about his story >> 2 Decades For a 2 Year Degree.  This is a link to a story that ran in the Daily Herald >> 80 Year Old Earns Harper Degree.

I couldn’t be more proud.
