Originally, this post was titled Overland Expo 2018 as I was intending to recap the trip to/from for that year. It’s currently 2022 and I just got back to that draft. Rather than deeply reminisce on travel almost four years ago, let’s quickly recap.
Overland Expo 2018
We attended the event in Flagstaff, AZ. It was at Fort Tuthill and by this year we’d finally hit our stride. We’d configured the van to be perfect for our needs. Our needs being defined as “mobile metallic tent” and not much beyond that. We even figured out a shower arrangement which made things exponentially better.
Overland Expo 2019
We decided to skip in 2019 because going to the event had become the extent of our overlanding. Both of us wanted to do something else and actively brainstormed. Ending up with an anniversary trip to Hawaii. We figured we could go every other year and still get what we were seeking out of the event.
Then the pandemic.
Everything stopped.
We replaced our trusty 1999 Ford E250 with a 2019 Ford Transit 350. Financing was excellent, chips were still plentiful. All wheel drive! The retrofitting began.
Overland Expo 2020
Still canceled.
Despite the event being canceled, the maiden voyage of Terri the Transit to/from Illinois to avoid pandemic flying occurred. It was cannonball run style as the trip was not anticipated.
Overland Expo 2021
It’s back! We’re vaxed! New Mountain West in Colorado!
It was great getting back on the road and traveling for fun. The 2020 modifications to the truck did not work out as well as we’d hoped. Primarily resulting in sleepless nights which cut the trip short. However, wonderful event while only being a little on-edge with the Delta variant prowling around.
