New Shoes

Angie has been looking at the Vibram Five Finger shoes for a while now.  Having recently been in need of new running shoes I decided to take a look.  As with most “hot topics” there are reviews on both sides of the aisle:  no cushioning is good for you, lack of cushioning will drive you to an early grave.  The argument that resonated with me was the one that Vibram was using in the ads.  Summarizing it basically said that millions of years of evolution have developed the perfect cushioning system:  you.

Having bought into the marketing, off we went to REI to pick up our respective pairs.  Unfortunately I was also getting over the flu so it has been a while before I was able to take them out for their inaugural run.

Mark that completed.  I didn’t run as far as I would normally on a Tuesday, but it was far enough.  When I got back home muscles I don’t think I’ve ever used in my legs were buzzing.  I’m totally hooked and can’t wait for my next excursion with them.  It is going to take some time to work up to longer distances in them, but I’m looking forward to it.
