Day 8 – Free day part deux

Today was our last full day in Melbourne. We wandered around the city today. Our plan was roughly check out some sites, learn some history, and begin to mentally prepare ourselves for the massive flights ahead of us.

After breakfast we headed out towards the Old Treasury where gold which was being mined in around Melbourne was being stored. There were other exhibits in the building including information on the origins of the city, the state of Victoria, and of course the use of the building over time. If you’re in Melbourne and looking to kill about an hour that might be a place to go.

After that we prowled around the shopping districts, and made an attempt to get to Market. Turns out that was closed so back to the shopping districts we went. All the retail shops are gearing up for Christmas of course. This is nice in that the shops are hopping, but bad in that all of the potential souvenirs seem to be Christmas related. It’s also weird seeing all the Christmas decorations in such warm weather. That’ll be chilled out of me when we get back to the PNW.

We called it an early night and headed back to the hotel. My body simply feels broken. I’m still not on par with my pre-injury self and walking around for hours doesn’t help. To help we went to the pool and hung around there. I think I spent a bit too much time in the hot tub because my knee wasn’t feeling terribly good afterwards on the walk to dinner.

Bags are packed for our early AM wakeup. Just a short ride to the airport and we reprise our role as sheep being herded in the system again. Hopefully this time there aren’t any delays.

I’ve given up on the pictures and will be working on integrating them through the weekend when I’m back in the warm embrace of the broadband internet at home.
