Day 4 – Terrorizing the fauna

Finally had some access to wifi today at Starbucks. The one at the hotel is charging an ungodly amount for an hours worth and it isn’t clear how many devices can attach for that time period. So we’ve been war walking to locate wifi. Nearly all of the wifi requires some sort of purchase and is timed. For example, at Starbucks this morning we only had sixty minutes per purchase. Most places are like that which I understand, but is super frustrating when you want to leech bandwidth and upload a bunch of photos. Bottom line here is that pictures in the posts will need to wait until we get to Melbourne, or if we find some reliable, untimed, wifi access point around.

Breakfast at the hotel again, and found out that we’re entitled to a “full” instead of the “continental” we’ve been getting. The continental is pretty good, so wondering what the full looks like — hopefully it isn’t smothered in Vegemite.

After breakfast we spent some time at Starbucks leeching wifi, but didn’t have enough time, given what we purchased, to complete everything so there are internet searches queued up for tomorrow’s run.

We wandered back over to Darling Harbor to grab a quick lunch and to look for a hat for myself so that I don’t need to keep lathering up my head with sun block and to give it a break from the scorching UV rays here. With that completed we hustled back to the hotel for our wildlife tour pickup.

Packed onto a small bus we had Steve, the tour guide, a couple from Los Angeles, and a larger group from France who were accompanied by their friend/relative who was living in Sydney. Off we drove for about an hour before pulling off into a small town to stretch our legs. Back in the van we went and ended up going down what we’d call a forest service road the PNW. After a bit we hoped out of the van and began walking. This was repeated a number of times as we were shuttled from place to place. During our time out there we saw a koala, a mob of kangaroos, a mob of wallabies, a mob of wallaroos, group of emus, a wombat, and a whole host of birds. Unfortunately, that host of birds did not include a budgerigar. I heard them in the distance at one point, but Angie refutes that.

Dinner was included with the tour and we ended up back at the pub in the small town I mention above. I ordered a mushroom, spinach lasagna. It came with not only the lasagna, but a side salad and… french fries. How bizarre. Nearly everyones plate came with fries, but ours was perhaps the oddest pairing.
