{"id":82,"date":"2011-06-15T20:14:37","date_gmt":"2011-06-16T03:14:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.rubschlager.com\/angie\/?p=82"},"modified":"2011-06-15T20:14:37","modified_gmt":"2011-06-16T03:14:37","slug":"angie-and-matts-big-adventure-days-3-and-4","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rubschlager.com\/angie\/2011\/06\/15\/angie-and-matts-big-adventure-days-3-and-4\/","title":{"rendered":"Angie and Matt&#8217;s Big Adventure &#8211; Days 3 and 4"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.rubschlager.com\/angie\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2011\/06\/Day-3-Map1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-96 size-medium\" title=\"Day 3 Map\" src=\"http:\/\/www.rubschlager.com\/angie\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2011\/06\/Day-3-Map1-134x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"134\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>So yesterday we decided to stop at Crystal Cranes Hots Springs about 24 miles outside of Burns, OR.\u00a0 The ride down was supposed to be short, but Matt and I have discovered that the Garmin GPS can&#8217;t be trusted.\u00a0 We have it set to avoid expressways and unpaved roads.\u00a0 So it routed us onto a forest service road that it said was paved.\u00a0 Matt and were both a little dubious at the existence of a paved forest service road, but we figured we decide when we came to it.\u00a0 It wasn&#8217;t paved.\u00a0 But I, being the dutiful wife decide, because it was well graded gravel, to give it a go anyway.\u00a0 That and Matt does this puppy thing with his eyes.\u00a0 So off we go.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_90\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-90\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.rubschlager.com\/angie\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2011\/06\/OBDR.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-90 size-medium\" title=\"OBDR\" src=\"http:\/\/www.rubschlager.com\/angie\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2011\/06\/OBDR-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-90\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Stopping and wondering what Matt is doing. See, the road is nicely graded&#8230;<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>And then Garmin wants us to turn.\u00a0 The road becomes a little sketchier, the ruts deeper, puddles start to appear, and still I soldier on, until this happens about 2 miles in.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_92\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-92\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.rubschlager.com\/angie\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2011\/06\/OBDRend.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-92 size-medium\" title=\"OBDRend\" src=\"http:\/\/www.rubschlager.com\/angie\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2011\/06\/OBDRend-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-92\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">End of the road.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>That yellow sign is a no trespassing sign.\u00a0 I tend to take the traditional interpretation of that whole &#8216;no trespassing&#8217; as meaning, thou shalt not pass.\u00a0 Matt was a little more optimistic, but I had to pull rank, I mean really, my scooter is many things, but a 50cc dirt bike it is not.\u00a0 I had visions of yet another tragic Fox 12 news bulletin about another couple lost in the wilderness of Oregon.\u00a0 Would they find us in before our food ran out!\u00a0 Would we, with no rational explanation, leave our bikes to forage for food and become even more lost, eventually building our own cabin out in the wilderness and regressing to a pioneer lifestyle?\u00a0 Or, more likely, would my irritation at having to drag my scooter out of\u00a0 mud puddles 15 to 20 times overwhelm my sanity, causing me to climb a tree and regress to ape like behavior, never to be seen again&#8230;\u00a0 No thank you, I had Hot Springs to get to.\u00a0 So we back tracked and headed towards Burns and Crystal Cranes Hot Springs.<\/p>\n<p>I can&#8217;t recommend this place strongly enough, it is a truly well run establishment.\u00a0 The springs are privately owned, the facilities can accommodate several types of travelers, for RVers they have full hookups and level pads, for people who want a bed for the night they have rustic cabins and common bath facilites, they also have sites for tent campers and they have three teepees.\u00a0 The bathroom facilities were scrupulously clean.\u00a0 The hot springs itself is a large pond and they have 5 private soaking tubs.\u00a0 It was such a relief to be in a nice place after staying in that crap hole in John Day, OR.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_83\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-83\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.rubschlager.com\/angie\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2011\/06\/OutofCab1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-83 size-medium\" title=\"OutofCab\" src=\"http:\/\/www.rubschlager.com\/angie\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2011\/06\/OutofCab1-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-83\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Outside our Cabin<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"attachment_84\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-84\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.rubschlager.com\/angie\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2011\/06\/CraneCabinInterior.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-84 size-medium\" title=\"CraneCabinInterior\" src=\"http:\/\/www.rubschlager.com\/angie\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2011\/06\/CraneCabinInterior-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-84\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The cabins aren&#8217;t big, double bed only, but they are very clean and homey.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"attachment_85\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-85\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.rubschlager.com\/angie\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2011\/06\/Hotsprings.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-85 size-medium\" title=\"Hotsprings\" src=\"http:\/\/www.rubschlager.com\/angie\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2011\/06\/Hotsprings-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-85\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The hot spring fed pond for swimming.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"attachment_86\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-86\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.rubschlager.com\/angie\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2011\/06\/MattnIinHotSprings.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-86 size-medium\" title=\"MattnIinHotSprings\" src=\"http:\/\/www.rubschlager.com\/angie\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2011\/06\/MattnIinHotSprings-300x193.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"193\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-86\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Matt and I in the pond.
